Sound blocking or soundproofing uses insulating materials to prevent or "block" sound waves from intruding or escaping a space. The physical act of blocking sound requires the use of heavy, dense materials of sufficient mass that can reflect sound, thus containing it in one space and/or preventing it from getting into another space.
SoundProof Atlanta utilizes several products in order to block sound from entering or escaping a room:
- Mass Loaded Acoustical Material (Suitable for walls, ceilings, and floors)
- Acoustical Drop Ceiling Tiles
- Custom Wall Assemblies
Sound absorption products are given an NRC (Noise Reduction Coefficient) rating, while sound blocking (or soundproofing) materials are given an STC (Sound Transmission Class).
While both acoustic products reduce unwanted sound, they accomplish sound reduction by different means and can be used in combination in order to achieve the desired effect.
